The sodium hydroxide we sell is in tiny bead form. It can be "bouncy" so make sure your table is well protected.

Sodium hydroxide is a highly corrosive base and alkali. It is highly soluble in water, and readily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air. When mixed with acids (such as olive oil) a process of saponification will occur and soap is created.
