Sandalwood is one of the oldest known perfume ingredients, used for at least 4,000 years. Many ancient cultures used sandalwood in their daily life and traditional practices. For example, Sandalwood has been used to build many structures and temples in India, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, and the oil was also used in traditional embalming practices. Sandalwood is an evergreen tree, growing up to 30ft with a brown-greyish trunk and slender branches. It has leathery leaves and pink-purple flowers.
