Help! I got my new website all set up and ready to go, just not sure how to charge for shipping. I don't want to turn customers off by charging too much, but I don't want to lose money either. Can anyone share how they charge their customers?? I will ONLY be shippng within Canada for now. So I only need to know what to charge within Canada.

Thanks for your help!!

You can link Canada Post to your website, not too difficult to do. Various other shipping companies allow you to do the same thing but CP seems to be the most cost effective option, especially if you live away from the major cities.

Good luck with the new site!!

It cost me $8.95 including tax, yesterday, to mail 2 bars of soap (250 grams) via Canada Post using their Venture One discount. You probably need to gather a few examples of shipping costs like this to determine accurately how much it will cost you for various items and various quantities. How about putting a few packages together and head down to your local post office, tell them what you are doing, and find out how much it would cost to send each item to various parts of the country. I would pick a time when they are not going to be busy and take along a selection of postal codes for different provinces.

Hope that helps!!

I usually just leave the shipping blank in the mals e account website and put on my website under my policies page that shipping will be added seprately once the order has bee processed. that way the customers are only getting charged exact amounts for shipping.

Hi Suds,

If you got to the Canada Post website(or UPS or Puralotor...whoever), they have shipping charts that are very simple. You specify the postal codes of the shipper/receiver, weight and dimension of package. I know the Canada Post online chart is pretty accurate.

Also, if you think it'll be too hard to estimate the exact shipping amount for every single package, a lot of sellers just estimate it at around 30% of the cost of whatever's in the package...this isn't always going to be accurate, however.
